What is Docksy
Docksy turns a spare iPhone or iPad into a grid of glass buttons that control your Mac. You tap a button, and an action runs on your Mac. Actions include:
- Keyboard shortcuts
- Open an app, a website, or a file
- Copy and paste
- Close, minimize, or quit a window
- Play, pause, skip, or mute media
- A volume slider with haptics
- Countdown timers
- Folders and pages to organize everything
It is free, open source, and built to keep everything between your own devices on your own network.
What you need
- An iPhone or iPad running a current version of iOS or iPadOS.
- A Mac. Docksy controls your Mac, so you need the free Docksy companion app installed on it. The iPhone or iPad app does nothing on its own.
- Both devices on the same local Wi-Fi network.
Quick setup
- 1. Install the Mac companion app. Download it from the Docksy page, open it, and leave it running. The first time, your Mac asks for permission so Docksy can send keystrokes and run actions. Grant it, since that is how the buttons do their work.
- 2. Install Docksy on your iPhone or iPad from the App Store and open it.
- 3. Allow Local Network access when the app asks. This is how your device finds your Mac.
- 4. Connect. With both devices on the same Wi-Fi, your iPhone or iPad finds your Mac automatically. Pick it from the list.
- 5. Build your deck. Set up your grid of buttons, assign actions, and start tapping.
Frequently asked questions
Does Docksy need an account?
No. There is no account, no login, and no sign up. You download it and use it.
Does Docksy need the internet?
No. Docksy works entirely over your local Wi-Fi. Your iPhone or iPad talks directly to your Mac on your own network. Nothing goes through the internet and nothing goes through any server.
Why do I need a Mac?
Because Docksy controls a Mac. The buttons on your iPhone or iPad are a remote control, and your Mac is what they control. The free Docksy Mac companion app is what actually runs the actions, so it has to be installed and running.
Is it really free?
Yes. Docksy is completely free. There are no in app purchases, no ads, no subscriptions, and no trial. It is also open source, so you can read the code yourself.
What is the Local Network permission for?
It lets your iPhone or iPad find your Mac on your Wi-Fi. That is the only thing it is used for. If you decline it, Docksy cannot find your Mac and will not work.
My device cannot find my Mac. What do I check?
Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network, the Docksy Mac app is open and running, and you allowed Local Network access on your iPhone or iPad. Some networks, especially guest or public Wi-Fi, block devices from seeing each other, so a home network works best.
Does Docksy collect any of my data?
No. Docksy collects nothing and has no servers. The only data is the deck you build, and it stays on your own devices. See the privacy policy for the full details.
